Monkey Mia and Steep Point, Western Australia

We completed the drive to Monkey Mia from Kalbarri and settled into a very nice spot. Quick and easy pasta for dinner and an early night. We spent the next day in Monkey Mia, exploring Shell Beach, Eagle Bluff and had a quick fish off the RAC Caravan park beach (got a nice whiting). Saw an echidna too!

The next morning we had a greeting from the resident emus at Monkey Mia, who clearly have no awareness of your personal space. We had an awesome fishing trip in Francois Peron National Park. Cape Peron, Gregories and Bottle Bay were the highlights. Caught a few whiting which was good fun.

After a good night's sleep, we drove to Steep Point, navigating the corrugated terrain. Stunning beaches and awesome views of whales, cuttlefish, turtles and dolphins. The whales were so close we could hear their blowholes. We camped in the hilux overnight on a beach all to ourselves (as we had decided not to risk taking the caravan in, even though it probably would have been fine). Steep Point is definitely a big highlight of our trip so far. We caught some Spangled Emperor which were cool to see.
